Why we created this Christmas community giveaway for you

It’s been a little while since I last posted anything, so bear with me while I gather my thoughts and share what’s been on my mind. As a business and as people living and working in this community, we pay attention to what is happening in the outside world and understand how challenging and demanding life can feel at certain times. With Christmas season moving closer each day, we recognise that this period brings extra pressure for many families. We see it, we feel it, and we care deeply about it.

As a business, we wanted to offer a gesture that feels meaningful and supportive, something that gives a little boost back to the local community. This gesture arrives in the form of five £100 Tesco vouchers and five £100 Smyths Toys vouchers, designed to offer real help where help feels most needed.

There are no complicated rules attached to this. You don’t need to like anything or share anything. The only thing I would love you to do is tag people who you believe would genuinely benefit from this support and who would welcome a helping hand. This can be anyone in any situation, and you don’t need to explain why. Simply tag the names of people you feel would appreciate this opportunity during the festive season.

As parents, carers, grandparents and guardians, we create that Christmas magic in remarkable ways every year. This gesture aims to lighten the load a little and brighten the season for those who may feel stretched. So please, start tagging names.

I’ll carry out a draw in a fair and open way on the 5th of December so winners receive their vouchers in plenty of time to plan their shopping or pick up the bits they need.

How we collected entries fairly across all social platforms

Hi everyone, it’s Becky from Burnham Portable Toilet Hire. Today is the big day because the giveaway draw is finally happening. The prizes include five Tesco vouchers worth £100 each and five Smyths Toys vouchers worth £100 each, and it feels wonderful to be able to share something positive with the community.

I am genuinely blown away by the number of people who entered. We have a total of 197 names in the hat, gathered from Instagram, Facebook and the other places where the post was shared. I wasn’t entirely sure how to use one of those online name spinners, so I decided to do it the old-school way. I sat down, wrote every single name out and gave each person a number from 1 through to 197. It took a while, yet it felt like the fairest and most personal way to do it.

I’m about to spin the wheel, and before I do, I’ll show you the sheets where all of your names are written. Seeing how many of you tagged friends, family members and people you felt deserved a little lift has been incredibly touching. It has been lovely reading through your tags and watching kindness ripple through the comments.

Right, the camera is flipping round so you can see everything properly. All the names are written on paper, two full sides, and the wheel is ready to spin. Once the winners are announced, please get in touch. If you spot a friend’s name, give them a nudge so we can get their vouchers to them quickly.
